Medical Coder

In accordance with the mission of Taylor Station Surgical Center.
Ensures accurate and complete ICD-9 and CPT-4 coding of surgical, endoscopy and pain management procedures
Ensures complete charting and documentation of patient medical records in accordance with quality and regulatory standards
Responsible for organization and maintenance of medical records, filing, and documentation for the Medical Records Department
Ensures accurate and timely completion of medical record documentation and filing, including following-up with physicians, Taylor Station Surgical Center (TSSC) staff, and physician offices

Ensures accurate and timely billing of procedures by coordinating documentation needs with the billing service and physician offices, as necessary

Job Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)

High School Graduate or equivalency
RHIT, RHIA or CPC required within one year of employment date
Working knowledge of ICD-9, CPT, and HCPCS required
Working knowledge of APC payment classifications desirable
Working knowledge of medical terminology, human anatomy and physiology, and disease processes required
Effective verbal and written communication skills
Demonstrates a sense of maturity that enables a positive and effective handling of any situation
Ability to accurately do data entry and type a minimum of 50 w.p.m.
Previous computer knowledge required
Working knowledge of word processing and Excel programs required
Strong analytical and problem solving abilities and attention to detail required
Ability to prioritize and manage multiple and competing tasks
Work with minimal supervision
