ODH Director Stepping Down

Chief Legal Counsel Appointed as Interim Director

Ohio Department of Health (ODH) Director Rick Hodges is leaving the administration at the end of the month, according to the governor's office. ODH Chief Legal Counsel Lance Himes will take over as acting director on Friday, March 31.

Himes also served in the interim position in 2014 when he replaced Dr. Ted Wymyslo.

During his tenure at ODH, Mr. Himes has ascended steadily through the ranks of the Office of General Counsel, which serves as the agency’s legal department. He came to ODH as an assistant counsel in the Office of General Counsel and moved into three positions of increasing responsibility during the next seven years, most recently to General Counsel. As General Counsel, a position he held since October of 2011, Mr. Himes managed all legal issues for the 1,300-person agency and oversaw several attorneys and office staff.

The OAASC has regularly worked with Mr. Himes over the years on a variety of issues that impact ASCs, especially transfer agreement updates in law and licensure changes for ASCs.  We will update you when a permanent director is selected.
